Particularities
- As a host or host you have to live in Germany. If you have a temporary residence permit for Germany, then this must be longer than the duration of the obligation. In addition, legal persons domiciled in Germany can also make a commitment.
- You must send the letter of commitment (in original) to your guest. The latter must then present the original to the German embassy or consulate in his home country for the visa. He also needs a travel health insurance for Germany. He must present the certificate of insurance in the original. A travel health insurance can be taken abroad or by you in Germany.
- The letter of commitment should not be older than six months if the guest applies for a visa.
- The Schengen visa for visiting purposes is granted for a maximum of 90 days. For this reason, your guest should apply for the visa at the German diplomatic mission for the period he actually wants to spend in Germany. The decision whether to issue a visa is made solely by the German diplomatic mission. For visa questions, please contact them directly.
- The submission of a declaration of commitment in the German diplomatic mission is not mandatory for the issue of a visa. There is also the possibility that the person invited can prove sufficient income or assets in the German mission abroad. We therefore recommend to clarify this in advance.
